Effective Tips for an Email Marketing Campaign
By Dan Forootan, President of EZ Publishing
Developing the right email marketing strategy may seem like a challenge. We can assure you, with the right strategy, your email marketing campaign will be off and running. Here are some effective tips for an email marketing campaign that will really help your ability to reach customers.
Do not use recipient’s name in email blast: Phishing and cyber security breaches have many people on guard when it comes to seeing an email with their name in the subject line or body of the email. There is a difference between a creepy, email blast personalization and genuine attentiveness to your customer’s needs.
Subject line length: Constructing the perfect subject line can be a bit of a challenge. What is better known as the “Dead Zone” is any subject line that is between 60-70 characters long. Shockingly, if a subject line exceeds 70 characters it is more likely to get clicked through, whereas short subject lines below 60 characters have been proven to show the best results in an email marketing campaign. The reason shorter subject lines are so successful is because they make the reader curious enough to want to open the email blast.
Free content: Everyone wants something free, so it is time to give your customers an incentive to remain active in your email marketing campaign. Try sending a few email blasts leading up to the big give-away. Some preliminary emails can explain to customers to watch for the free give-away email you will be sending on a specific date. This creates curiosity and anticipation.
Timing is everything when sending an email blast: For a successful email marketing campaign, do not send emails first thing in the morning, during lunchtime or during rush hour traffic. If you choose any of the aforementioned periods, your email blast is sure to be either deleted or forgotten about. You want to catch your customers during their down time. During the week, 8pm would be an ideal time, and on weekends try for late morning or early afternoon. The key to proper timing with email blasts is about assuring you are catching your customers during their downtime, and not when they are in a hurry.
